Honor Field raises over $7,500 for local veteran organizations

Jun. 24--The Honor Field flag memorial in Springfield raised over $7,500 for local veteran organizations this year.

The money raised through sponsorships and flag sales will help fund veteran's medical transportation, Honor Flight, Purple Heart Chapter 620, Tuskegee Airmen, Feeding Our Heroes, Wagging Warriors and other local veteran causes.

"We owe our service men and women a debt we can never fully repay," Frank Lewis, owner of Jackson, Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center said. "This is just a small way for us to show our appreciation for those that have served for our country and our freedom."

The Honor Field flag memorial, which ran D-Day to Flag Day, displayed 8-foot American flags representing U.S. military members on the front lawn of Jackson, Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center, located at 2425 N. Limestone St.

The display was free and open 24 hours for visitors to pay respects and reflect on the sacrifices they made for our freedom.

"Each flag is a visible reminder of the selfless, dedicated service to our country by military service personnel and the ultimate sacrifice made by these men and women," the press release from Jackson, Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center said.

Over the last 11 years, Lewis said that the Honor Field has raised over $70,000 for local veteran organizations.

He said that he wanted to thank their primary sponsors, local sponsors and this year's flag sponsors for their "support and generosity."

This year Jackson, Lytle & Lewis Life Celebration Center had a second Honor Field at Springfield Regional Medical Center to honor and pay tribute to healthcare officials.
