How to nominate for Hamilton's new Veterans Hall of Fame

Hamilton Journal News - 1/9/2020

Jan. 9--It's now possible to make nominations to the Hamilton Veterans Hall of Fame online through the Greater Hamilton Chamber of Commerce's website.

Officials in November inducted the first-ever group of honorees, with plans to add more in coming years, each time around Veterans Day.

Dan Bates, the president and CEO of the chamber, said it is a pleasure for the chamber as an organization and him as an individual "to assist with this recognition."

To be eligible, a veteran must be a current or former city resident, must have been honorably discharged, and must be "of good moral character," according to rules for the hall of fame.

"I am amazed with the names that have come forward of people who had stellar careers, living in our community that we had no idea," he said. "The other piece of the recognition is what they have done in our community as a civilian since their military career."

The first group of inductees included more than 20 men and women, some deceased. Some were killed during their service, while others died since.

"It is so outstanding and humbling to be reading these bios," Bates said.

Three veterans are on the selection committee, along with Bates and Mayor Pat Moeller.

Nominations will be reviewed early in the fall, with those who are chosen, along with those who nominated them, notified in October.

For those without Internet access, nomination forms can be requested from the Greater Hamilton Chamber of Commerce, Attn. Veterans Committee, 201 Dayton St., Hamilton, Ohio 45011. The phone number is 513-844-1500.
